A. Administrative The focus of this material is on any administrative paperwork Litton issued or received during his career at UC Berkeley. B. Course Materials These folders contain course syllabi, reading lists, lecture notes, and assignments for the breadth of courses which Litton taught from 1962 through 1998. The largest collection of material is for Litton’s LA 223 course, Introduction to California Landscape, which he taught with fellow professors Joe McBride and Michael Laurie from 1979-1998. The class often took weekend long field trips to various California landscapes and landscape forms, which they would then sketch, analyze and submit written observations about as part of the coursework.

C. Research Notes D. Reference Files Subseries C and D contain material being researched by Litton either in conjunction with his courses or that he was investigating as a UC Berkeley professor. It includes material for both projects in which he collaborated with other professors and material he worked on independently. E. Students’ Work Litton retained some student work over the years which can be found in this subseries. There is also field work analysis done by student researchers contained under this heading. Specifically, there is analysis performed around the Lake Tahoe Basin, Plumas National Forest and a study of open land in Wyoming, South Dakota, and North Dakota.
