Correspondence This subseries consists primarily of letters to the Forest Service regarding policy and letters to colleagues regarding topics being researched.

B. Writing This subseries contains over forty topics researched and written about by Burt Litton. The subject matter is primarily related to the visual analysis of landscapes, with an emphasis on National Parks and Forests of the Western United States.

C. Presentations D. Associations & Committees E. Awards Subseries C through E comprise material regarding Litton’s activities outside of UC Berkeley and professional recognition he received from his peers in the landscape architecture profession. Most of the files relate to presentations given by Litton at conferences and symposiums related to the field of landscape architecture and forestry.

F. Research Notes G. Reference Files Subseries F and G contain Litton’s research notes and reference files related to the landscape aesthetics and analysis topics of his written work. Many of the topics found in this subseries correlate to Litton’s written works found in subseries B and has additional material found in the project index. The bulk of the material contained spans the period of 1963 through 2003.

H. Consulting Because of his extensive knowledge and abilities with landscape analysis and resources management practices, Litton was often hired as a consultant by both commercial and non-profit entities. His consulting included work for the Tennessee Valley Authority on the impacts of Coal Strip Mining and for the firm of Jones & Jones on a project related to Highway Development. This subseries contains consulting related projects, from 1968 through 1980.
