William Dutcher Collection
Scope and Contents
The Dutcher collection consists of one series, Project Records, and the projects contain project files, drawings, photographs, and slides. There are two models in the collection, for the Swanson residence and the unbuilt Church of the Holy Trinity. The collection is only partially processed.

Biographical / Historical
William R. Dutcher (1935- ) was born in Berkeley, CA and lived in Oakland all his life except for almost a year traveling in Europe. He attended Piedmont Avenue Elementary School, Westlake Junior High School, and Oakland Technical High School graduating in 1953. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, and received his Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1959. Dutcher received his license to practice architecture in 1963, and work for various firms including: Kolbeck, Cardwell & Christopherson; Corlett & Spackman; Charles W. Moore-MLTW; and McCue, Boone, Tomsick Architectus (MBT) until 1970 when he opened his own firm. He partnered with Hanf as Dutcher and Hanf from 1975-1985, and was known as William R. Dutcher FAIA Architect since becomming a Fellow of the AIA in 1992. Dutcher received multiple awards from the American Institute of Architects California Council and the East Bay Chapter of the AIA.
